Portfolio Website

Software Development

The Why

I decided to develop this website as I wanted somewhere to exhibit my skills and showcase the projects I am currently working on. It also gave me the opportunity to apply and develop my knowledge of JavaScript, HTML and CSS.

The How

I began with some initial sketches of what I wanted my portfolio to look like to give me a basis to work from when I began laying out my HTML and applying the CSS styles. After multiple attempts of I finally landed on a design and was able to begin developing the website. I started by developing the HTML and CSS to achieve the desired look of the website and from there moved on to using JavaScript to add the effects. In order to simplify development, I took advantage of two JavaScript libraries. The first being the typed.js library to create the typing animation you can see on the homepage and the ScrollReveal library which enables easy animation of elements of a webpage as the user scrolls. Both of these effects I felt added a more finished and professional feel to the webpage.

I also wanted to include a contact me form on the webpage to allow people who visit my portfolio to be able to easily contact me. To prevent me from having to develop a backend, I used Formcarry to handle the contact form submissions.

Next was to purchase a domain and choose where to host my website! I purchased henryverity.com (original I know) from google domains and chose Ionos as the host due to the low cost and easy setup with their Webspace feature.

The Outcome

After spending far too long developing and revising how I wanted my portfolio to look, I was able to finally come to a finished design I was happy with. Please use the contact me form to let me know what you think! (or if you find any bugs!)
